What data we collect
We only collect data that is necessary to run the site and answer you. Where information is optional, you can leave it out without losing access to anything.
Usage data (collected automatically)
When you visit, some information is collected automatically through our analytics and hosting providers:
- Device and browser: device type, browser, operating system and screen size.
- Activity: which pages you view, how you arrived and how long you stay.
- Approximate location: country or region, never your street address.
- Technical details: IP address and similar connection data, used for security and to deliver pages.
Information you give us
If you choose to contact us, join our newsletter, ask a question, turn on market alerts, upload a chart or write a trader review, you provide:
- Contact details: your email address and, if you give it, your name.
- Your messages: the content of emails, contact form messages and questions sent through Ask FX Recap, and our replies.
- Trader reviews: the name you choose to show, your country, account type, star rating and review text, plus your email address. Once we approve a review, everything except the email address is shown publicly on the broker's review page. Your email address is never published.
- Market alerts: if you turn on browser alerts, your browser's push address and the markets you chose to follow. Turning alerts off deletes them.
- Chart screenshots: if you use Chart Pre-Flight, the image you upload is sent to an AI service to be read and is not stored by us. To apply the daily limit we keep a scrambled (hashed) code made from your IP address for 24 hours, never the address itself.
- Partner enquiries: if you use the advertising form, your name, company, work email and message.
FX Recap has no user accounts or logins, so we do not hold passwords or profile data.
Information stored only in your browser
Some tools remember your choices, such as your time zone on the market hours tool or the lessons you have ticked in our course. These are saved in your own browser's storage, are never sent to us, and can be cleared at any time from your browser settings.
How we use your information
| Purpose | What it means |
|---|---|
| Improving the site | Aggregate usage statistics show which guides, reviews and tools are useful, so we know where to invest effort. |
| Answering you | We use your email and message to reply to questions, corrections, partnership or job enquiries. |
| Publishing trader reviews | If you write a review of a broker, we read it before it is published and may use your email address to check that it is genuine. We do not add you to the newsletter. |
| Sending the newsletter | If you subscribe, we use your email address to send it. Every issue includes an unsubscribe link. |
| Funding the site | Aggregate patterns help us decide where to place ads and affiliate links. We never use your personal data for targeted advertising beyond our own site. |
| Security and legal duties | Connection data helps protect the site from abuse, and we may disclose information when the law requires it. |
We do not sell, rent or trade personal data. We do not build detailed profiles of individual readers.
Third-party services we use
We rely on specialist providers for some functions. Each receives only the data it needs for that function, under its own terms and privacy policy.
| Provider | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics | Visitor statistics | Usage data and cookies (see our cookie policy) |
| Cloudflare | Hosting, security, storage of trader reviews and contact form messages, and the spam check on our forms (Turnstile) | IP address and request data needed to deliver pages; the reviews and contact messages you submit, including your email address; browser signals Turnstile uses to tell people from bots |
| TradingView | Live prices, charts and the technical meter on some pages | Data your browser shares when the widget loads, under TradingView's own policy |
| MailerLite | Newsletter sign-up and delivery; passing contact form messages and new reviews to our team | Email address, if you subscribe; your message or review and email address, if you send one |
| Google Sheets | Our private log of form submissions | Email address and what you entered, when you use a form on the site |
| YouTube | Our videos | On most pages a video loads from YouTube only after you press play; before that, only our own thumbnail is shown. On our video pages (/videos/…) the YouTube player loads with the page. Either way YouTube receives the data your browser shares and may set cookies, under Google's policy |
| Google Translate | Translating a page when you choose a language in the header | The page's text and the data your browser shares with Google, only after you choose a language other than English, under Google's policy |
| Anthropic and Cloudflare Workers AI | Reading the chart screenshot you upload to Chart Pre-Flight | The image only, sent for that one reading. We do not store it, and it is not linked to your name or email |
| Cloudflare (push alerts) | Storing your market-alert choices if you turn alerts on | Your browser's push address and the markets you follow; deleted when you turn alerts off or your browser revokes them |
| Our email provider | Receiving and answering email | Your email address and messages |
Affiliate links take you to brokers' own websites, which have their own privacy policies and may set their own cookies. We do not control those sites.
Where data is processed and when we share it
Location of processing
Data is processed using secure computers and IT tools. Depending on where you are, it may be transferred to countries where our providers operate. We take appropriate measures to keep it protected wherever it is processed.
Legal disclosure
We share information with authorities only when the law requires it, for example in response to a valid court order or warrant.
Security and retention
Security measures
The whole site is served over encrypted HTTPS connections, our systems are kept up to date, and access to personal data is limited to the team members who need it.
How long we keep data
We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected: for example, your email for as long as you stay subscribed, or correspondence for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry. A trader review, and the email address sent with it, is kept for as long as the review is published; you can ask us to remove it at any time. Data may be kept longer where the law requires it or you have agreed to it.
Your rights over your data
It is your data. To use any of these rights, email info@fxrecap.com; we may need to confirm your identity first.
Access
Ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Correction
Ask us to correct or update inaccurate information.
Deletion
Ask us to delete your personal data, subject to legal exceptions.
Objection and restriction
Object to certain processing or ask us to limit how we use your data.
If you are covered by the GDPR or UK GDPR, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. If you are in India, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 also lets you withdraw consent at any time, nominate someone to exercise your rights, and take a complaint we have not resolved to the Data Protection Board of India. We give readers in Bangladesh and every other country the same rights listed above.
Records we keep, and why
Newsletter consent
When you join the newsletter we record your email address, the date and time you signed up, and the form and page you used. This is our record of your consent. Every issue has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops further emails straight away.
Messages and requests
Messages sent through our contact form, including correction requests and legal notices, are stored with the date received so we can answer them and show how each was handled. We store a scrambled (hashed) version of the sender's IP address to block spam, never the address itself.
Trader reviews
For each trader review we keep the date it was submitted and the date it was approved or rejected, as set out in our trader review policy.
Cookies, children and changes to this policy
Cookies
We use cookies, mainly for analytics. Our cookie policy lists them and explains how to control them.
Under 18s
FX Recap is intended for adults. Our services are not directed at anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
Privacy rules change, and so may this policy. When we make significant changes we will say so on this page and update the date shown; where we hold your email for the newsletter, we may also tell you by email.
Questions and complaints
Email info@fxrecap.com. Messages come straight to the team and are answered by a real person.
