Can I open an IC Markets account from my country?

Is it legal for me to trade with this broker?

Two things decide whether you can trade: the broker must accept your country, and your own country's law must allow you to trade with a foreign broker. A broker accepting you does not make it legal where you live, so check both.

Your country

This is the global company's list; IC's Australian site also excludes Israel and Brazil.

Is IC Markets safe? It depends on where you live

What does a regulator actually do?

A regulator licenses brokers and supervises how they treat clients. Top-tier regulators such as the FCA (UK), ASIC (Australia) and CySEC (EU) set strict rules on client money, leverage and complaints; offshore regulators set lighter ones. Most brokers run several companies, and the one named in your client agreement decides which rules protect you. Negative balance protection means you cannot lose more than the money in your account.

IC Markets runs several companies. The one you join depends on where you live, and it decides your regulator and your leverage cap. Pick your region:

Company
Raw Trading Ltd (IC Markets Global)
Regulator
FSA (Seychelles)
Licence
SD018
Leverage

  • Offshore licence: lighter rules than ASIC or CySEC
  • Segregated client accounts and an external auditor
  • Client money insurance up to US$1,000,000 (policy TT2602110)

"IC" and "IC Markets Global" are trading names of Raw Trading Ltd; icmarkets.com now redirects to ic.com. Check the company named in your client agreement on the regulator's own register.

IC Markets fees: what one trade costs

What are spreads and pips?

The spread is the gap between the buy and sell price, and it is the main cost on accounts without commission. A pip is the fourth decimal on most currency pairs (0.0001); on one standard lot of EUR/USD, 1 pip is worth about $10. Raw and ECN accounts have tighter spreads but add a fixed commission per lot, so always compare the total cost.

Standard puts the whole cost in the spread. The Raw Spread accounts charge near-zero spreads plus a fixed commission, which is usually the cheaper route for frequent traders.

Mon swap × 1 Tue swap × 1 Wed swap × 3 Thu swap × 1 Fri swap × 1 Each night your trade stays open past rollover, you pay or earn a swap Wednesday covers Saturday and Sunday · swap-free accounts remove this interest
What is a swap fee?

A swap is interest you pay or earn when you keep a trade open past the daily rollover, because a currency trade borrows one currency to buy another. Many brokers charge three days on Wednesday to cover the weekend. An Islamic or swap-free account removes this interest, sometimes with a fixed admin fee instead.

What is a lot, and what is a cent account?

A standard lot is 100,000 units of currency, a mini lot 10,000 and a micro lot 1,000. A cent account shows your balance in cents, so you can trade very small sizes while you learn. Standard accounts usually cost more in spread; raw accounts cost less in spread but charge commission.

IC Markets leverage by market

Your money $100 1:100 Position you control $10,000 Stop out trades closed Margin call warning Healthy margin →
How do leverage, margin call and stop out work?

Leverage lets you open a bigger position with less money: at 1:100, $100 controls $10,000. It multiplies losses exactly as much as profits. Margin is the money held to keep a trade open; at the margin call level you are warned, and at the stop out level the broker starts closing your trades. Most beginners are safer with low leverage.
